Helen McClain was born in 1916 in Yakima, Washington. Attended high school in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from UCLA in 1939. Helen McClain married on 1941, and moved to Ojai with her husband. For 25 years in Ojai artist was active in local community and her involvement with Garden Club in Ojai was part of local art league. Artist died in July 30, 2012. Part of her life was her move to Laguna Woods to be with her family upon death of her husband.
