Traditional Samurai Style Katana Japan Sword On Black Wood Stand
Katana has been one of the traditionally made Samurai sword, made in Japan. this has been part of our collection for more than three decades. it is now seeking new ownership. It has been acquired from a hilltop home in Hollywood area, from a film producer, maker . very likely for a movie prop as it came from the Estate of Movie Maker. Traditionally made in Japan and Characterized by it's distinctive appearance, a curved, slender, single edged blade. usually it has a circular or squared guard and a long grip to accommodate two hands. it has incredible workmanship, with several figurative Asian symbols, possibly signatures. Figurative, head of a snake, dragon, floral, people ornamentation. it is very possible that the grip is made of a resin, hard plastic, or bone. it has a sharp metal blade, brass/bronze guard, and black textile cord . situated on an original period black wood stand.
sword and stand overall measuring 44" tall. The sword itself has a black metal cover is 42" tall.the stand is about 25" in heights, 11.5" w. x 7.5" length with 2" thickness. the guard is about 3" in diameter, and the grip is 13.5" long. In fabulous aged condition, and the metal has a few scratches. attributed to post mid century.
according to the latest resource, the sword was on the Highlander Television Show viewed by millions on the hands of main character of the Highlander "Duncan Macleod".
